What is CHARACTER COUNTS!
CHARACTER COUNTS! is the nation's most widely used character development framework.
The CHARACTER COUNTS! coalition was founded and is administered by the nonprofit
Josephson Institute of Ethics. The CHARACTER COUNTS! framework is based on the "Six Pillars of Character"SM:
TRUSTWORTHINESS
RESPECT
RESPONSIBILITY
FAIRNESS
CARING
CITIZENSHIP
These core values stem from the 1993 Aspen Ethics Conference, which was attended by a diverse group of educators, youth leaders and ethicists.
This group was called together in the interest of helping young people develop
the basic values of good character.
District 59 integrates the values of the Six Pillars throughout all of our curriculum areas and school activities.
